Amandayan – a member of the Aman Luxury Hotels Collection – overlooks the cobbled lanes of the old town, Lijiang, in the Yunnan Province in southern China. Lijiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was founded in the 13th century by the Mu dynasty.
The Amandayan- a Boutique hotel with 35 suites housed in buildings with traditional Chinese architecture – has an extremely elegant style – full of lovely details, and where one can enjoy both the local atmosphere and a minimalist modernity.
In the suites with pointy roofs, the walls and floors are made in lightly coloured Yunnan pine wood and harmoniously blend with white and sandy fabrics, as well as sculpted sliding shutters and some tastefully chosen handicrafts.
The cuisine focuses on organic produce and vegetables grown on site. It mainly offers culinary specialties from the Yunnan area which originally came from the Naxi Nakhi ethnic group. A tea house overlooking the Lijiang roofs and the high mountains, including the Jade Dragon, also offers snacks, Dim Sum and pastries.
As always in Aman hotels, the Spa is a peaceful sanctuary that respects the philosophy of the site and in this case provides its guest with traditional Chinese medicine techniques. A 20-meter long swimming pool, a gym and a pilates studio makes for a complete experience.
The excursions provide a mix of natural and cultural experiences: visit of the Wenchang Palace erected in the Qing Dynasty in 1725, stroll through the Jinsha River Gorge and trekking on the Jade Dragon Mountain, visit of Lijiang and its little shops, visits of the nearby villages as well as the local markets…
