When you arrive at Maalifushi by Como, located on the Thaa atoll in the Maldives, you feel like you are taking a big dip away from civilisation. Not one hotel in sights, only unoccupied small islands. The colours of the ocean seem even more crystal clear than anywhere else, maybe because of the strong contrast with the jungle’s emerald colours. Maalifushi By Como managed to protect its environment as well as the island’s ecosystem. And the result is impressive. From the beach, it is impossible to see the villas, totally buried under the coconut trees and the mangrove. Some large open spaces, an outdoor shower, ceruse wood furniture, light mosquito nets flapping with the wind, charming terraces with day beds and private pools… peaceful, relaxing, natural. The personnel are efficient and always smiling. The main restaurant, set in the sand, opens up to the pool whose blue colour resembles perfectly the lagoon’s blue. For lunch, we are offered meals with spicy flavours, samosas, ceviche, squid salads with coriander. Amongst the principal activities of the hotel, the cruise on a yacht taking us to a place where the Spinner dolphins go hunting by night is a must.
